In today's world, you have hundreds of products designed to enhance mobility, from the Asus EeePC to the "Longer-lasting" Duracell batteries. Yet very few websites are optimized for this kind of viewing. Google is the notable leader here, with their entire cluster of websites optimized for mobile browsers. The laggard here? Surprise, it's Verizon, who cripples browsers on their phones, then makes hard to use "Mobile Portals". But I'm ranting. With portable smartphone OSs having over 2% of the browser market (Amazing, considering that smartphones are a very recent invention) shouldn't webpages be optimized for these mobile devices? Yes and No. With new devices that are designed to show full webpages, like the iPhone, optimization will become unnecessary. Yet people will still want faster speeds, and will therefore want optimization. Yet it is cheaper for corporations to ignore the customer. Google seems to be the only company that is aware of this.
(I actually sent this from a Treo. Blogger has a wonderfully optimized mobile site because it's part of the Google cluster.)
